India’s first solar Agro Photovoltaic power project in Jammu & Kashmir

A draft proposal for the plant is believed to have been submitted and work on the project, with an estimated cost of Rs 50 cr, is expected to begin this month.
It will be a farm where Kashmir’s famous saffron will be cultivated but also double as a solar power project that is expected to generate up to 10 megawatts of electricity for the Valley

Jammu & Kashmir to declare 6 sites as Protected Wetlands

Srinagar Dal lake along with other famous ones in J&K is to be declared protected wetlands.
The other lakes which are to be declared protected wetlands include Purmandal lake, also called Chotta Kashi, located in the Samba district.
Wular, Dal, Nigeen lakes in the Kashmir region and Sanasar, Manasbal, and Purmandal lakes in the Jammu region are declared as protected wetlands

Indian Coast Guard Ship VAJRA commissioned into ICG

Vajra is the sixth in the series of seven Offshore Patrol Vessels which has been benefited from the high communication and navigation systems.
The Indian Coast Guard Ship ‘Vajra’ was formally commissioned on March 24, 2021, into the service in Chennai. It will be the sixth offshore vessel that will aim at enhancing coastal security.

Amboli in Maharashtra named Biodiversity heritage site

The Maharashtra government has declared an area at Amboli in the Western Ghats in Sindhudurg district as a biodiversity heritage site.
The decision to declare the area as the biodiversity heritage site is taken because of the discovery of rare fish species.
Earlier, the State government had declared the Glory of Allapalli in Gadchiroli district, Landor Khori Park in Jalgaon, Ganesh Khind in Pune, myristica swamp vegetation in Sindhudurg district as biodiversity heritage sites.

Russia registers world’s 1st Covid vaccine Carnivac-Cov for animals

The vaccine for animals, developed by a unit of Rosselkhoznadzor, was named Carnivac-Cov, the watchdog’s deputy head Konstantin Savenkov said.
Mass production of the Covid-19 vaccine could start as early as next month.

India’s biggest floating solar power plant to be set up at Ramagundam in Telangana
India’s biggest floating solar power plant with a capacity of 100 MW will be set up at Ramagundam in Telangana.
The project expected to be opened in May is being set up at Ramagundam thermal power plant reservoir. The solar project is commissioned by the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC).

The project, which is estimated to cost around 423 crore rupees, will have 4.5 lakh photovoltaic panels.

Priyanka Mohite Becomes 1st Indian Woman to Scale Mt Annapurna

Priyanka Mohite from western Maharashtra’s Satara has become the first Indian woman climber to scale Mt Annapurna, the 10th highest peak in the world, reported PTI.
Located in Nepal, it is the world’s 10th highest peak and is considered to be one of the toughest mountains to climb.

NASA Mars Helicopter INGENUITY prepares for 1st flight

NASA’s Ingenuity Helicopter, which was sent to Mars strapped to the Perseverance rover, will take its first experimental flight on the Red Planet on or after April 14, the space agency has announced
NASA had unlocked the rotor blades of its Ingenuity helicopter, thereby allowing them to spin freely, on April 7.
If things go as planned, Ingenuity, a 1.8-kilogram rotorcraft, will become the first helicopter to fly on another planet.

World’s Largest Solar Power Park in Gujarat near Pakistan border

Gujarat is building the ‘world’s largest solar power park, close to its border with Pakistan.
Approximately 30 kilometers from the last point accessible to civilians in the Rann of Kutch, an area roughly the size of Singapore — 72,600 hectares or 726 square kilometers — has been set aside for what is being touted as the world’s largest hybrid solar-wind power park.
In this remote desert area, where no human resides, the sun beats down relentlessly.
