 ET Lifetime Of Public Service Award For Former FM (Late) Arun Jaitley

  • Former Finance Minister Arun Jaitley was conferred posthumously the Lifetime Achievement award for Public Service at the Economic Times Award 2019.
  • While receiving the award, Jaitley’s wife Sangeeta Jaitley said he always kept the country first, and everything else came after that.
  • The second thing that Jaitley held high was ethics, she said here while receiving the ET award.

Lionel Messi Wins Ballon d’Or For 6th Time

  • Lionel Messi won his sixth Ballon d’Or title on Monday, overtaking Cristiano Ronaldo’s haul of five awards.
  • He pipped Liverpool’s Virgil van Dijk and Mohamed Salah, Ronaldo and 26 others to the crown. Messi had already beaten van Dijk to FIFA’s The Best title in September.

Sahitya Akademi Award 2019 Released

  • Akademi announced that it would honour seven books of poetry, four novels, six books of short stories, three of essays and one each of non-fiction, autobiography and biography.
  • The award, including 1 lakh in cash, would be presented to the authors at a ceremony on February 25, 2020, the Akademi said in a statement.
  • An Era of Darkness: The British Empire in India’ by Tharoor, who is a Congress MP, was selected in the English category.
  • The awards honour works of poetry by Dr. Phukan Ch. Basumatry (Bodo), Dr. Nand Kishore Acharya (Hindi), Nilba A. Khandekar (Konkani), Kumar Manish Arvind (Maithili), V. Madhusoodanan Nair (Malayalam), AnuradhaPatil (Marathi) and Prof. Penna Madhusudan (Sanskrit).
  • Novels by Dr.JoysreeGoswamiMahanta (Assamese), L. Birmangol Singh (Manipuri), Cho. Dharman (Tamil) and Bandi Narayana Swamy (Telugu) were among the winners.
  • Books of short stories by Abdul AhadHajini (Kashmiri), TarunKanti Mishra (Odia), Kirpal Kazak (Punjabi), RamsawroopKisan (Rajasthani), Kali CharanHembram (Santali) and Ishwar Moorjani (Sindhi) were selected as well.

Smriti Mandhana In ICC’s ODI and T20 Team Of The Year

  • Smriti Mandhana was named in both the International Cricket Council’s ODI and T20 teams of the year, capping off a memorable season. Mandhana has played 51 ODIs and 66 T20Is for India, besides a couple of Test matches. She has a combined tally of 3476 runs in T20Is and ODIs.

  • The all-rounder was man of the match as England won the World Cup for the first time with a dramatic super over victory against New Zealand at Lord’s.
  • Stokes, 28, also hit an unbeaten 135 in the one-wicket third Ashes Test triumph against Australia at Headingley.

Toni-Ann Singh Crowned Miss World 2019

  • Jamaica’s Toni-Ann Singh has bagged the Miss World 2019 at an annual beauty pageant held here, with India’s Suman Rao becoming second runners-up.

Kamareddy Wins United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF)-2019 Award For Swachh Bharat Implementation

  • Kamareddy district secured the United Nations International Children’s and Education Fund (Unicef)-2019 Award for effective implementation of Swachh Bharat Mission in water sanitation and hygiene sectors.
  • The district stood in the forefront in the country in construction of individual sanitary lavatories, swachh darpan wall paintings, swachh survekshan, swachh sundar shouchalay and other activities.

Indian Archaeologist Honoured In Bangladesh

  • Noted archaeologist R. Nagaswamy was honoured at the Silver Jubilee International Conference of Art in Dhaka by Bangladesh Culture Minister M. Khalid for his contribution to art, archaeology, history and culture.
