 Aayushi Dholakia becomes Miss Teen International 2019

  • Vadodara’s Aayushi Dholakia has bagged the title of Miss Teen International 2019, vying with the girls from 22 countries, becoming the first Asian to do so in the last 27 years.
  • Dholakia also bagged the titles of Best in National Costume Award and Best in Speech Award.
  • The event was held at Kingdom of Dreams, Gurugram.

Muppavarapu Venkaiah Naidu National Award to MS Swaminathan

  • M S Swaminathan presented with ‘MuppavarapuVenkaiah Naidu National Award’ for his contribution to agriculture
  • M.S. Swaminathan was awarded for his significant contributions in the field of agriculture.

The National Award for Excellence was instituted by the Muppavarapu Foundation. The award for Social Service was launched by the Swarna Bharat Trust, in Hyderabad.

  • While Pat Cummins and Rohit Sharma also walked away with top prizes in Test and ODI categories respectively, Indian captain Virat Kohli was bestowed with triple honours.

Swarna Jayanti Fellowships awarded to 14 scientists

  • The Union Ministry of Science and Technology have awarded Swarna Jayanti Fellowships to 14 scientists to pursue basic research in frontier areas of science and technology.
  • The fellowship covers all the requirements for performing the research and includes a fellowship of 25 thousand rupees per month.
  • A research grant of five lakh rupees for five years is also being provided in addition to their salary.

Indian scientist Sakya Singha Sen awarded “Merck Young Scientist Award 2019

  • Sakya Singha Sen from National Chemical Laboratory awarded as Merck Young Scientist Award 2019 for performing remarkable research in chemical science.
  • Merck Young Scientist Award
    Merck Young Scientist Award is given to researchers with less than ten years of experience with expertise in solving some of the toughest problems in chemical sciences.

  • Former India captain and member of the 1983 World Cup-winning team Krishnamachari Srikkanth recipient of this year’s prestigious CK Nayudu Lifetime Award given by the BCCI.
  • Former India women’s captain Anjum Chopra is the co-recipient of the lifetime achievement award for the year 2019.

President of India Presents 14th Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards

  • The President of India, Shri Ram NathKovind, presented the 14th Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards at a ceremony held in New Delhi.
  • The eminent jurors for this year’s Ramnath Goenka Excellence in Journalism Awards were Tom Goldstein, Professor and Dean, Jindal School of Journalism & Communication, O P Jindal Global University; S Y Quraishi, former Chief Election Commissioner;
  • Pamela Philipose, journalist and Senior Fellow at the Indian Council of Social Science Research; and Justice B N Srikrishna, former Supreme Court judge.

‘Castle of Dreams’ recieves the Best Film Award at DIFF-Dhaka International Film Festival

  • The Iranian film ‘Castle of Dreams’ directed by Reza Mirakarimi won the Best Film Award in Asian Competition section of the 18th Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF).
  • Indian film ‘Finally Love’ directed by AnjanDutt bagged Best Audience Award in Cinema of the World Category.

  • The Dhaka International Film Festival (DIFF) is being organized by the Rainbow Film Festival since 1992 with support from Bangladesh government and many other organizations including the High Commission of India, Dhaka.
  • The theme of this year’s festival was ‘better film, better audience, better society.’

 RBI stands at 6th position in buying gold abroad in World Gold Council report

  • The World Gold Council (WGC) recently released its report, “World Gold Outlook 2020”. The report says that gold has performed the best since 2010 in 2019. In 2019, the gold trade in USD has increased by 18.4% as compared to 2010.
