‘Best Innovation Award’ won by NEFR

  • Northeast Frontier Railway has won the ‘Best Innovation Award’ for unique strategy adopted to keep wild elephants away from train tracks. The cash prize awarded of Rs 3 lakh. The NEFR, in a bid to tackle the problem, came up with ‘Plan Bee’ in 2017.

India Football Federation’s Awards

  • Indian men’s football team captain Sunil Chhetri and women’s footballer Ashalata Devi were awarded the AIFF Player of the Year awards by the All India Football Federation.

  • Best Grassroots Development Programme: Jammu & Kashmir Football Association.
  • AIFF Award for the Best Referee: R Venkatesh from Tamil Nadu.
  • AIFF Award for the Best Assistant Referee: Joseph Tony from Karnataka.
  • AIFF Emerging Women’s Footballer of the Year 2018-19 Dangmei Grace from Manipur.
  • AIFF Emerging Men’s Footballer of the Year: Abdul Sahal from Kerala.
  • AIFF Women’s Footballer of the Year: Ashalata Devi.
  • AIFF Men’s Footballer of the Year: Sunil Chhetri.

Sudarsan Pattnaik wins People’s Choice Award in the U.S.

  • Padma Awardee Sudarsan Pattnaikhas won the People’s Choice Award for his sculpture “Stop Platic Pollution, Save Our Ocean’at a prestigious sand sculpting festival in the U.S.
  • Pattnaik was participating in the 2019 Revere BeachInternational Sand Sculpting Festival in Boston, Massachusetts.

Miss Deaf World 2019 title

  • Vidisha Baliyan, a 21 year old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Muzaffarnagar city, was crowned the Miss Deaf World 2019 title, held in Mbombela, South Africa.
  • She is a former international tennis player who represented India in the Deaflympics and also won a silver medal.
