Writer Paul Zacharia chosen for Ezhuthachan Puraskaram

  • Noted Malayalam writer Paul Zacharia has been selected for this year’s Ezhuthachan Puraskaram, the Kerala government’s highest literary honour.
  • The award, named after Ezhuthachan, the father of the Malayalam language, carries a cash prize of Rs five lakh and a citation.

Scottish Author Douglas Stuart’s ‘Shuggie Bain’ Wins 2020 Booker Prize

  • Scottish author Douglas Stuart won the Booker Prize for fiction with his first novel Shuggie Bain, with judges saying his tale of love and alcoholism set in Glasgow in the 1980s was destined to be a classic.
  • The book, based on his childhood, tells of a young boy growing up during tough years in Glasgow with a mother who is battling addiction.
  • The 44-year-old Stuart, who wins 50,000 pounds and is only the second Scot to have won the prestigious literary prize, said he was stunned.

Bangladeshi teenager Sadat Rahman wins International Children’s Peace Prize 2020

  • Bangladeshi teenager Sadat Rahman has won the International Children’s Peace Prize 2020 for his work in combating cyberbullying. The award was presented to Sadat by Nobel Peace Prize winner Malala Yousafzai.
  • Reportedly, the 17-year-old has set up a social organization and mobile app “Cyber Teens” to stop cyberbullying.
  • Sadat started his campaign after a 15-year-old girl committed suicide after suffering from cyberbullying. The app “Cyber Teens” has given a platform to helpless teenagers needing help.

Author Ruskin Bond to be conferred with TATA Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020

  • Ruskin Bond, one of India’s most cherished authors, has been conferred the Tata Literature Live! Lifetime Achievement Award for 2020. Mr. Bond has a substantial body of work – close to 100 books – across genres for children and adults. His writing has charmed both categories of readers into lifelong love and admiration.
  • Bond has been recognised by the Indian Council of Child Education for his contribution to the growth of children’s literature in India. He has also been conferred the Padma Shri and Padma Bhushan.
  • Ruskin Bond’s celebration of nature through all of his writings has made him the first literary ‘eco-warriors’ of India, much before the phrase was coined. His stories also reflect his deep connection to both India and nature.

  • He said water is a scarce natural resource that is fundamental to life, livelihood, food security and sustainable development.
