  • Nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv 2019’ to promote tourism kicks off
    • The nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv’, 2019 kicked off to promote tourism in the country.
    • The aim is to propagate the message of “Dekho Apna Desh” to encourage people to visit tourist destinations of the country and also spread the message of Tourism for All.
    • This year’s event is dedicated to 150th birth Anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
  • Tourism Ministry launches App “Audio Odigos” for 12 sites of India
    • Ministry of Tourism Yogendra Tripathi launched the Audio Guide facility ‘Audio Odigos’ for 12 sites of India (including Iconic Sites).
    • The launch was made during the ongoing celebrations of nationwide ‘Paryatan Parv 2019’.
    • An MoU for Gol Gumbad, Delhi with Government of Delhi and Resbird Technologies was also exchanged for the development of Tourism Amenities.
  • India’s first private train Lucknow-Delhi Tejas Express flagged off
    • Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, flagged the country’s first private semi-high speed train, Tejas Express from Lucknow.
    • It will be the first train of Indian Railways that will be entirely run by Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC). It will cover the distance between Delhi and Lucknow in six hours fifteen minutes.
    • All passengers travelling by Delhi-Lucknow Tejas Express will be provided free insurance of up to 25 lakh by IRCTC.                          
  • HP Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the Pragati Rath of the HDFC bank
    • Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur launched the Pragati Rath of the HDFC bank. During the launching occasion, the bank provided a cheque Rs.1 crore to the Chief Minister’s Relief Fund. The bank has also announced that it is to launch the Sustainable Livelihood Initiative in the State.
  • India’s first e-waste clinic to be set up in Bhopal
    • The first e-waste clinic of India will be set up in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) and the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) have tied up to set up the clinic.
    • This clinic would enable segregation, processing and disposal of waste from both household and commercial units.
    • The electronic waste will be collected door-to-door or can be deposited directly at the clinic in exchange for a fee.
  • NHA ties with Google to strengthen the implementation of PMJAY
    • National Health Authority (NHA) has signed a Statement of Intent (SoI) with Google to collaborate and strengthen the implementation of Ayushman Bharat -Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana (AB PM-JAY).
    • PMJAY aimed to bring quality healthcare to around 50 crore poor and vulnerable Indians across India. It is touted as the world’s largest public funded health insurance scheme.
  • Reliance MF renamed as “Nippon India Mutual Fund”
    • Reliance Mutual Fund has been renamed as “Nippon India Mutual Fund“. The organization was renamed following the purchase of 75% stake in Reliance Nippon Life Asset Management by Nippon Life Insurance.
    • Nippon India Mutual Fund has become the largest foreign-owned Asset Management Company in India. Sundeep Sikka will continue to lead company as the
  • Dearness allowance of government employees hiked by 5%
    • The Union Cabinet raised dearness allowance by 5% that will benefit 50 lakh government employees and 65 lakh pensioners. The hike in DA will cost the government Rs 16,000 crore annually.
    • The move will be effective from July 2019 and is a major relief for government employees who will now be entitled to an additional five per cent dearness allowance.
    • Cabinet has also relaxed the mandatory requirementof Aadhaar-seeded data as a pre-condition for release of funds to the beneficiaries under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi scheme. The relaxation will be till 30th November 2019.
  • “DHRUV” a Learning Programme launched from ISRO, Bengaluru
    • “DHRUV” a Pradhan Mantri Innovation Learning Programme has commenced from Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) in Bengaluru and will conclude at IIT, Delhi.
    • The programme aims to further sharpen innovative imagination, skills and knowledge of the students who are expected to contribute to bringing solutions to socio-economic, political and environmental issues in the country.
    • 60 brightest and talented students from Science, Mathematics and Performing Arts have been chosen for the programme.
  • 9th RCEP Intersessional Ministerial Meeting to be held in Thailand
    • The 9th Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Intersessional Ministerial Meeting will be held in Bangkok, Thailand.
    • This will be the final Ministerial meeting before the 3rd Leaders’ Summit which will be held on November 4, 2019 in Bangkok.
    • Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal will represent India in the meeting.
  • J&K’s Chenani-Nashri Tunnel to be renamed after Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee
    • India’s longest Tunnel Chenani- Nashri on NH 44, in Jammu and Kashmir will be named after Bhartiya Jansangh founder Dr Shyama Prasad Mukherjee.
    • Prime Minister Narendra Modi in 2017 had dedicated to the nation this 2 km long tunnel that reduces the distance between Jammu and Srinagar by 31 km. 
  • Railways Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off 9 ‘Sewa Service’ trains
    • Railway Minister Piyush Goyal flagged off nine trains connecting small towns to major cities and one of those, the Vadnagar-Mehsana train, was the railways’ gift to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who sold tea at the Vadnagar station during his younger days.
    • The trains are – Delhi to Shamli, Bhubaneswar to Nayagarh town, Murkongselek to Dibrugarh, Coimbatore to Palani, Coimbatore to Pollachi, Vadnagar to Mehsana, Asarya to Himmatnagar, Karur to Salem, Yesvantpur to Tumkur. 
  • NH No. 703AA in Punjab named as Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg
    • Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari announced the naming of new National Highway No. 703AA as “Shri Guru Nanak Dev Ji Marg.”
    • The road starting from Kapurthala connecting Goindwal Sahib and terminating near Taran Taran in Punjab. The naming would be effective from next month.
    • The decision has been taken to mark the 550th Birth Anniversary of Shri Guru Nanak Dev.
  • The 18th NAM Summit to be held in Baku, Azerbaijan
    • The 18th Summit of Heads of State and Government of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) held at Baku, the capital of Azerbaijan from 25-26 October 2019.
    • The theme of the summit for 2019 was “Upholding the Bandung Principles to ensure concerted and adequate response to the challenges of the contemporary world”.
    • Vice President M.Venkaiah Naidu addressed the summit.
    • The NAM Summit is held every three years. It is a forum for 120 member states to discuss issues of importance in politics, security, development and others.
  • No govt. jobs in Assam for people with more than two children
    • The State Cabinet of Assam has decided to make government jobs out of bounds for people with more than 2 children.
    • The policy will come into effect from January 1, 2021.
    • The Cabinet also adopted a new land policy that will make the landless indigenous people eligible for 3 bighas (43,200 sq. ft.) of land for farming and half a bigha for constructing a house. The beneficiary will be able to sell the given land only after 15 years of use.
  • Union Cabinet approves merger of BSNL and MTNL
    • The Union Cabinet chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi has approved the merger of loss-making telecom firms BSNL and MTNL as part of a revival package, includes raising sovereign bonds, monetising assets and voluntary retirement scheme (VRS) for employees.
    • The Cabinet has also given in-principle nod to the merger of BSNL and MTNL and till modalities are in place, MTNL will be a subsidiary of BSNL.
    • The revival package for BSNL and MTNL includes raising of Rs 15,000 crore sovereign bonds and monetising Rs 38,000 crore of assets in next 4 years
  • Chenani-Nashri Tunnel renamed as Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Tunnel
    • J&K’s Chennai-Nashri Tunnel renamed as Shyama Prasad Mukherjee Tunnel. The ‘Chenani-Nashri Highway Tunnel’ is not only India’s longest highway tunnel (9 km) but also Asia’s longest bi-directional highway tunnel.
    • It is located in the lower Himalayan mountain range, between Udhampur and Ramban in Jammu & Kashmir.
  • Indian Railway launches One Touch ATVM
    • Indian Railways has launched ‘one touch ATVM’ at 42 suburban stations of Central Railway over Mumbai Suburban Network.
    • The machine has been launched to render fast ticketing to millions of commuters. This new machine will reduce the waiting time of the passengers and allow passenger to avoid standing in long queues.
    • A total of 92 ATVMs has been installed at 42 suburban stations.
  • CBSE & NCERT launches ‘Tamanna’ test for Class 9 & 10 students
    • The Central Board of Secondary Education and National Council for Educational Research and Training have launched an online aptitude test called ‘Tamanna’.
    • Tamanna stands for “Try and Measure Aptitude and Natural Abilities“. Tamanna is an aptitude test that aims to help students of Class 9 and 10 to make a better choice of subjects, eventually helping them in making an informed decision while choosing subjects in Class 11 and 12.
  • India now has 28 states and 9 UTs
    • According to the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019, the appointed day for the two Union Territories J&K and Ladakh was October 31.
    • This is for the first time that a state is converted into two Union Territories. The total number of states in the country will now be 28 while the total Union Territories will go up to nine.
