DRDO successfully conducts final trial of Nag anti-tank guided missile in Pokhran range

  • India successfully carried out the final trial of the Defence Research and Development Organization (DRDO)-developed Nag anti-tank guided missile with a warhead.
  • The test was carried out in morning at the Pokhran field firing ranges in Rajasthan. The trial of Nag anti-tank guided missile comes after the DRDO tested the helicopter launched Stand-off Anti-Tank Missile (SANT) with a range beyond 10 km from Balasore testing range in Odisha on 19th October.
  • The Nag anti-tank missile is ready for induction in the Indian Army. It has completed 10 successful user trial as it finds the target and then hit it.

INS Kavaratti to be commissioned into Indian Navy

  • Army chief General Manoj Mukund Naravane will commission anti-submarine warfare (ASW) ship INS Kavaratti into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard in Visakhapatnam.
  • INS Kavaratti, the last of the four indigenously built Anti-Submarine Warfare (ASW) stealth corvettes built under Project 28 (Kamorta class), by Garden Reach Shipbuilders & Engineers (GRSE), Kolkata, was formally inducted into the Indian Navy at the Naval Dockyard in Eastern Naval Command.

India, Bangladesh hold second edition of naval exercise in Northern Bay of Bengal

  • The second edition of the bilateral naval exercise Bongosagar between India and Bangladesh in the Northern Bay of Bengal. Ships from both navies participated in surface warfare drills, seamanship evolutions and helicopter operations.
  • Indian Navy ships Kiltan, Khukri & Bangladesh Navy ships Abu Bakr, Prottoy, helo and MPA undertook manoeuvres, surface drills, helo operations and seamanship evolutions.
  • Bongosagar will be followed by the third edition of India Bangladesh Coordinated Patrol (CORPAT) on 4-5 October.

Indian Coast Guard ship Kanaklata Barua commissioned in Kolkata

  • Fast Patrol Vessel (FPV) ICGS ‘Kanaklata Barua’ of the Indian Coast Guard was commissioned at the Garden Reach Shipbuilders and Engineers (GRSE) Ltd , an official said here.
    The commissioning was done through video conferencing by Jiwesh Nandan, additional secretary, Ministry of Defence and was attended by senior officials of the Indian Coast Guard and GRSE, including its chairman and managing director Rear Admiral V K Saxena (retd), the official said in a statement.

Indian and Sri Lankan navies to begin their annual exercise ‘SLINEX’

  • The 8th annual joint exercise between Indian and Sri Lankan navies – SLINEX-20 – will begin off Trincomalee coast. The 3-day exercise will continue till 21st of October.
  • The Sri Lanka Navy will be represented by SLN Ships Sayura and Gajabahu led by Rear Admiral Bandara Jayathilaka, the Flag Officer Commanding Naval Fleet, Sri Lanka Navy.

India conducts successful night trial of nuclear-capable Prithvi-2 missile

  • India successfully conducted a night trial of indigenously developed nuclear-capable over-250 km-strike-range Prithvi-2 missile from a test range in Odisha.
  • The trial took place at 7.30 pm from launch complex 3 of the Integrated Test Range (ITR) at Chandipur near Balasore. The DRDO-developed missile is already part of the Strategic Forces Command.

India successfully test-fires naval version of BrahMos missile from INS Chennai

  • A naval version of the BrahMos supersonic cruise missile was successfully test-fired from an indigenously built stealth destroyer of the Indian Navy in the Arabian Sea officials said.
  • The missile was fired from INS Chennai, a stealth destroyer, and it hit the target with pin-point accuracy after performing “extremely complex” manoeuvres, they said.

DRDO successfully flight tests “Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo”

  • India successfully flight tested the Supersonic Missile Assisted Release of Torpedo (SMART) from Wheeler Island off the coast of Odisha.
  • All mission objectives, including missile flight upto the range and altitude, separation of the nose cone, the release of Torpedo and deployment of Velocity Reduction Mechanism (VRM), were met perfectly in the flight test.
  • Defence Minister Rajnath Singh congratulated the Defence Research and Development Organisation (DRDO) for the success.

Indian Coast Guard Offshore Patrol Vessel ‘Vigraha’ launched to enhance coastal security

  • The seventh offshore patrol vessel of the Indian Coast Guard (ICG), ‘Vigraha’ was formally unveiled at Kattupalli .
  • The vessel built by Larsen and Toubro NSE 1.12 %, is the last in the series of seven OPVs contracted to the company by the Ministry of Defence in 2015.
  • It was for the first time a private sector shipyard has undertaken the design and construction of offshore patrol vessel class of ships.

India successfully test-fires DRDO’s ‘Rudram-1’ Anti-Radiation Missile from a Sukhoi-30

  • India successfully test fired a new generation anti-radiation missile which will be part of the tactical weaponry of the Indian Air Force, officials said.
  • The missile, Rudram-1, is India’s first indigenously developed anti-radiation missile that has a speed of Mach two or twice the speed of sound.
  • The missile is likely to be integrated with the Sukhoi fighter jets of the Indian Force once the missile is ready for induction, the officials said.

Russia successfully tests new hypersonic Tsirkon missile

  • Russia says it has successfully tested a new hypersonic anti-ship cruise missile in a move hailed by President Vladimir Putin as a “great event” for the country.
  • Valery Gerasimov, chief of the Russian military’s General Staff, told Putin – who turned 68 – that it was the first time the missile had successfully struck a target at sea.

  • In a major success amid the ongoing border crisis with China, India successfully test-fired a new version of nuclear-capable Shaurya missile off the coast of Odisha, which can strike targets at around 800 kms.
  • The missile would be lighter and easier to operate in comparison with the existing missile
  • In the last phase while moving close to its target, the missile moves at hypersonic speeds
